NDIS alert: respectful conduct obligations also apply online

The NDIS Commission released a Provider Alert on 30 September about respectful conduct online. It reminds providers and workers that existing NDIS Code of Conduct obligations apply to social media and other online behaviour, not only face-to-face support. The alert responds to harmful comments about people with disability and points to participant privacy, dignity and safety. It is a reminder of existing obligations, not a new social-media law or a new reporting deadline.

Document and workflow checks

Turn the official change into reviewable actions

  • Share the Commission alert with workers and review the organisation's current online-conduct, privacy and safeguarding guidance against it.
  • Check that staff know how to escalate harmful online conduct or a privacy concern through the organisation's authorised incident and complaints pathways.
  • Document any policy or training follow-up without copying participant posts, identifying details or incident records into CaresLink.

Who may need to review this

  • Registered and unregistered NDIS providers
  • NDIS workers and team leaders

Impact areas

  • NDIS Code of Conduct online
  • Participant privacy and dignity
  • Online behaviour and escalation

Team review question

Who will review online-conduct guidance, worker briefing and the authorised escalation route?

Usage boundary

The alert reinforces existing Code of Conduct duties; it does not create a new law or certify any local policy. CaresLink does not investigate complaints or collect participant, worker, social-media or incident records. Use the Commission and your organisation's authorised safeguarding and privacy processes.
