NDIS claims over 90 days old: extra checks from 15 October 2026

NDIA announced on 5 October that, from 15 October 2026, it will make extra integrity checks on claims submitted more than 90 days after a support is delivered. Such older claims may be held for up to 28 days while checked, and NDIA may ask for more information or evidence before payment. Claims submitted within 90 days continue through the usual process. This 15 October operational check is not the separate statutory 90-day claim-submission limit scheduled to commence on 1 December 2026; do not treat either date as a promise that a claim will be paid or rejected.

Document and workflow checks

Turn the official change into reviewable actions

  • Check the support-delivery and claim-submission dates in the authorised claiming system, and submit promptly where the claim is ready and permitted under current NDIA guidance.
  • For a claim submitted more than 90 days after delivery from 15 October, assign an owner to monitor any NDIA hold or request for supporting information; retain the claim and response evidence in the authorised system.
  • Keep the 15 October extra-check process separate from the statutory claim-time change scheduled for 1 December; use current NDIA guidance for a case-specific decision.

Who may need to review this

  • Plan managers
  • Self-managed participants and nominees
  • Claiming and evidence owners

Team review question

Who owns older-claim evidence requests and the two separate October and December date checks?

Usage boundary

This is a source-linked claiming-process reminder, not a claim, payment, eligibility, evidence or legal decision. The 15 October extra check does not itself ban older claims; the separate statutory time-limit change is scheduled for 1 December. Do not enter participant, invoice, claim or health details into CaresLink. Use NDIA and the provider's authorised claiming systems for current case-specific guidance.
